How to Find the Right Latex Mattress for You

Finding the right mattress can feel impossible. With all the different varieties, feel options, and the different pros and cons of each, there are a lot of variables. Mattress comfort is rarely a one size fits all, and so finding the right one can be difficult. Here, we will discuss what type of mattress is best depending on the different types of needs and wants!

Why Finding the Right Mattress Matters

Unfortunately, mattresses aren't a one size fits all type of deal. With a mattress, there are varying levels of support, comfort, costs, and sizes that should all be taken into account when you're selecting your bed. Not to mention any health concerns that need to be taken into account, and the add-ons for a bed like sheets, pillows, and adjustable bases.

With all these different factors that change on the individual level, it is vital that we don't just trust 'oh, this is the top of the line mattress' and instead, dig into the varying factors that might result in one bed being better than another for us on an individual level.

So, how do you find the right latex mattress for you?

Shop in Store

Ideally, if you can, you should make an effort to try the bed in store. While we can recommend different types of bed depending on your needs, nothing compares to laying on it yourself, as every body is unique.

You can find iAdjust Mattresses at a wide variety of retailers, available to try in store! Howevever, if you can't find them near you, we can offer guides on how to find the best mattress for you!

Firm Latex Mattress

A stick figure, showing how a firm bed can work for someone who doesn't need a conforming mattress.

If you enjoy a firm feel, sleep on your back or stomach, or generally don't need a bed that conforms to you, a firm latex mattress might be best! Even though it's firm, latex still offers a nice bounce, perfect for if you toss and turn, or need a responsive level of support.

Additionally, if you are rather 'straight and narrow', you may not need the level of conforming that a softer bed has, and it might even cause pain in the long-term.

Medium Latex Mattress

A medium latex mattress is often a great choice! As it's a medium, it fits a lot more needs, which is especially great for combination sleepers, or couples who have differing needs.

A medium latex mattress offers slightly more give than a firm mattress, while still offering great support each and every night.

Soft Latex Mattress

Finally, we have the soft feel, or, the plush feel. This is great for people who love a soft bed, or who primarily sleep on their sides, or need a bed with a lot of give and conformity.

The great thing about latex is that no matter how soft you go, you do not lose any of the support. This means that the firmness you go with is a matter of preference and comfort, and you can rest easy knowing you'll still be getting support!

Solid Versus Hybrid

So, what's the difference between a solid latex mattress and a hybrid? Well, to start, the construction is very different. A solid latex mattress will typically have a firmer latex core, followed by softer top layers like latex, wool, or cotton. Generally, these will sleep really cool, be entirely chemical-free, biodegradable, and organic.

However, there are a few reasons you might prefer a hybrid over a solid latex mattress. One of the biggest drawbacks is the weight. Latex is very dense, which lends to it being durable, however, it also leads to it being very heavy. If you move your mattress a lot, or have a bedframe with a weight limit, it may be worth checking how much your mattress weighs to avoid having a bed that's too heavy.

A hybrid mattress is a bed made of two technologies. A latex hybrid is a latex mattress with coils. There are a couple of benefits to a latex hybrid. The number one benefit is that they are much lighter, and offer a more traditional feel than solid latex. If you move your bed a lot, or need a lighter bed, a latex hybrid is definitely the way to go.

However, if you're sensitive to chemicals, need a bed that's entirely chemical-free, organic, and biodegradable, a solid latex mattress will fit your needs much better.

Foundation

Finally, we ask what you're putting it on.

Our latex mattresses are adjustable base friendly, however, it's always best to check in case you're interested in an adjustable base. Another good thing to check is the adjustable bases weight capacity! Most bases will tap out somewhere 600 pound weight capacity, which sounds like a lot, until you factor in the weight of two people sleeping on it, dogs, cats, and the weight of the mattress itself.

iAdjust Adjustable bases come with a 1320 lb weight capacity, offering the strongest Okin motors around.

If you're putting in on a platform bedframe with slats, be aware that wooden slats are made to flex and bend so they do not snap, which may make the mattress feel slightly softer. If you have a solid support, like boxsprings, plywood, or something similar, the mattress will likely feel a little firmer, as the support underneath does not flex or bend.

So, what's the best mattress?

The best mattress is the mattress that fits your unique needs the best! So, there's no one best mattress. Instead, you can use our guide, try beds in person, or read our great reviews to find the perfect latex mattress for you!
